Than in the front seat is the obvious conflict between Eric and his parentsīOB MIDGE>KITTIE RED Here we have the adult dynamic of the show, Red hates Bob (Red hates everyone) even though hes basically his only friend. This involves things likes Fez getting tricked into getting the less attractive girl than getting witched when the roles change.
Hyde has taken Fez under his wing, showing him how to live the American lifestyle (or not as the situation suits him). I believe this represents Donna's inner conflicts, from her parents divorce to her clinging to the reliable neighbor-boy to make up for her rollercoastery home life and her idiotic parents. Than we have what i call Donna+Eric+1 there are countless times in the show, when Donna and Eric think they're having a private time only to realize Fez is in the closet or behind the curtain.ĭONNA_HYDE FEZ>KITTIE ERIC RED So in this arrangement we have 3 sets of characters, Donna although she is sitting by Hyde is completely sitting away from anyone. The way the show was written Hyde and Jackie ended up together. HYDE JACKIE>ERIC DONNA FEZ I believe the creators used this scene to foreshadow Hyde and Jackie as a thing. Eric's face is shown with extreme fear and anxiety caused by the people to his main antagonists to the left and right. In the backseat we have 3 best friends, constantly pushing each other to the edge (pranks, burns, etc) and in the front we have a snapshot of the pressure Eric feels from his father and girlfriend's father (who lives directly next door). During this part Fez's focus is constantly on JackieįEZ KELSO HYDE>BOB ERIC RED So in this arrangement we have what i consider the masculine dynamic of the show. Fez sees Jackie as the epitome of beauty, every time he learns a new maneuver for getting the ladies or enhances his appeal in any way he first tries it on Jackie or whenever he sees a chance to get Jackie from Kelso he goes for it, even right in front of Kelso. Hyde loves Donna, its no secret, he tried intervening many times to prevent Eric and Donna from getting together, in the sequence although Eric's arm is around Donna she's sitting practically on Hyde's lap.
So we have the obvious dynamics from Donna+Eric and Kelso+Jackie, and it also portrays the way Hyde and Fez look onto the couples (Hyde envying Eric and the same for Fez towards Kelso). KELSO JACKIE FEZ> HYDE DONNA ERIC In the main seating arrangements for the car we have the 2 main relationships and their self-named "third wheels". In the title sequence we have 5 sets of of seating arrangements each of which representing the main dynamics of the series. At first glance it seems that the gang is just driving down the street having a great time, but i believe there's a lot more to it than that. The gang driving in the Vista Cruiser singing "In the Street", written by Alex Chilton and Chris Bell of the band Big Star.
We are all familiar with the theme song for That 70s Show. Many opening sequences are used so i chose one and used evidence from that section of the show.
